From My Patients
All I can say is a big Thank You! During your talk here you mentioned a specific test for Vitamin B12 deficiency. My mother-in-law was having many of the symptoms that you referenced. We took her to her doctor. We had the experience with her doctor you thought we might, as he did not really want to perform the test but I had my husband insist, and noted that we would pay for it. So he reluctantly ordered the test (we are in the process of her changing doctors now). When he got the results back they indicated my mother in law was deficient in B12. The doctor said, “Well, I guess it was good you had me run that test but I do not think it has anything to do with what is going on with her.” He did give her a B12 shot and she is on schedule to get them every month. About a week later, she went to see a mental health practitioner (she was having some anxiety issues) who she said that she thinks a lot of her symptoms were due to the low B12. Since she has gotten the shot she is feeling so much better.
I just wanted say thank you for all that you do for our employees and their families and for mine. We would have never known to ask for the test without you. Thank you again.

Last year my doctor told me if I couldn't improve my cholesterol numbers, I would have to start medication. I did not want to do that, so I saw Dr. Evans. Within 6 months, my numbers had improved so significantly that my doctor actually thought I had started the prescription he gave me! I'm very happy with my results and I'm so glad I don't have to take cholesterol medication. Changing my diet worked for me. Thank you, Dr. Evans.

Dr. Jan! Last January, I needed help with the triple threat: overweight, poor diet, and bad lab results. You have helped me cut though all the faddish diet chatter, read and understand nutrition labels, and get back on track to good wholesome nutrition. By April, I had lost 30 pounds and my lab results were the best in memory! Other positive physiological changes are happening, all leading to a healthier me! An unexpected benefit is that I'm experimenting and enjoying a broader range of whole food options. I'm still working towards goal; the changes made guarantee my success.

Dr. Jan, I want you to know how much I truly appreciate you and your help. Thanks to you, my A1c went from 9.4 to 6.2 in three months!!! I know that 'thank you' just isn't enough to show that appreciation but, THANK YOU! You have literally saved my life with your knowledge and support.

Dr. Evans, I started following your advice very closely since the middle of January. This morning my bathroom scale told me that I just crossed over into a 15 pound weight reduction. And, I’m NEVER hungry! Thanks!!

Dr. Evans: I'm very happy to report that I am doing quite well since my consultation with you. I feel great and I look great. I've had some very welcome weight gain. My consultation with you was an overwhelmingly positive experience, and I'll go so far as to say that it was a turning point in my cancer recovery and my overall health. Thank you so much for your assistance. I've been recommending you to everybody!

Two years ago when my primary physician gave me your name and advised me to see you for nutrition counseling, I took the slip of paper he handed me, but knew in my heart that I didn’t need you and would not be calling you. 2008-2010 had been rough years for me as I fought cancer and managed food allergies and intolerances. Then in 2011, in addition to being overweight, I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I asked my doctor for your contact information again.
I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. Unlike so many other dietitians, you didn’t put me on a diet; rather, you took the time to educate me about weight and diabetes and the impact on my body. You tailored meals and snacks around my schedule and to my likes and dislikes. You knew I wasn’t starting yet another diet. I was entering a new way to live and live well.
The times I’ve fallen down for whatever reason, you have not shamed me or lectured me. You have been concerned and caring. And you have listened to me. That’s so very important. You listen. You care. Not just about me, but about all of your patients. It’s easy to tell that this isn’t just a job for you. It’s a passion and a calling. My only regret - I wish I’d contacted you the first time my doctor recommended you. Thank you for being there for me - for being my coach, my friend and my dietitian.
I highly recommend you and your services without any reservations. You are a life-saver. And I mean that literally. I hope my words will help someone else who may be thinking about nutrition counseling. I want others to know you: the person behind the clinician, and the kindness you offer as you do your life's work.

Dr. Jan, Thank you! Not only did you help my daughter to recover from her eating disorder, she has made lifestyle changes and loves to share her knowledge with family and friends. Your work has touched many!

Recovering from bulimia is the hardest thing I have encountered and probably will ever encounter in my life. Not only was my image of myself and nutrition completely distorted, my family and friends were also affected by many aspects of my eating disorder. Dr. Evans realized this and was able to contribute her knowledge to me and my family, making sure we were all working together toward a common goal. She has truly been a blessing throughout my recovery by holding firm expectations (nutritionally and personally) that helped me to restore a sense of balance and accountability in my life. Her knowledge about nutrition and her genuine concern for my well-being made listening to her advice, however difficult it was to hear, much easier to accept. With her weekly counsel, my hesitation in seeking a dietitian quickly turned to anticipation as I began to translate her expectations for me into personal goals. Today, I am approaching my three year anniversary in recovery. Even though Dr. E has taught me to take credit for my accomplishments, her influence and involvement have been undeniable. Honestly, I don’t have the words to describe the difference she has made in my life!
